Be careful with that one-off idea. A rook one file off from the enemy king is often the worst place for it. Many times the king is preventing the rook from invading to the 7th rank. Being one file off is really only useful if it coordinates with other pieces to form a king attack. Of course, this is exactly what you'll see in most test suites, so I'm sure it would look pretty good there. -Dan Pineo
