They chose not to attend. I consider this (personally) to be beyond "bad judgement". They produce tons of hyperbole about being the best in the world. Then they don't show up to prove it, which only leads to speculation about what would have happened had they participated. It really should be their responsibility to not let that happen, for the good of computer chess. Unless computer chess is not what this is about... No way to force everyone that should be there to enter. But from a personal perspective, I can say this. After winning CCT6, I really was going to skip CCT7 due to some family and work scheduling conflicts, but I thought about it and concluded "that isn't fair... I won the last one, if someone else wins this one without my participating, then we hear 6 months or a year's worth of 'but crafty didn't play, it would have won had it been here' and the like. So I decided to shuffle my schedule, miss a couple of family things we wanted to do, and participate. I think that a previous winner, or someone that claims to be the best over and over has some sort of moral obligation to "put up or shut up..." Just my $.02
