Well, I personally never use 3d views.  Somehow I can't 'see' the board.
However I was trained on Blitzin during my formative years, so that is possibly
an explanation.

Whether 'the world' wants a 3D board remains to be seen.  Personally I think the
board looks pretty good and I think its a nice feature to have.
