You cannot compare CM with CB. CB is the instrument for the chessplayers. CM on the American market is for those who want to play chess for a while. I have some versions of CM myself but due to time considerations I must make the decision about what should I use on a daily base. You could also bring NIC into the debate. All very nice, even led by a super GM (Jan Timman!), but you have the same difficulty, you must transform the files. It's a pity. In Wijk I bought the book with cdrom about all the Hoogoven tourneys and know what I haven't played through the compilation because of time reasons. Of course, if I were born in Holland I would certainly prefer NIC just for national warmth but I doubt it because I'm cosmopolit and want to have the best. This is why I didn't have the time for Chess Assistant although I always favor Russians if it comes to chess! On the other hand I have INFORMATOR because it's simply state of the art. I'm not content with ChessBase. They have no good user handling when it comes to bugs. But you know what? Often I learned much later after the event that certain bugs were features of copyprotection, if you know what I mean. In special if it comes to big databases. Here is my peace proposal for all Zappa supporters: Stay in the scene, do your job as best as you can - these ChessBase people are all approaching 60 and I guess they would rather retire than being in a bogie-wheel. Watch your cell-phone carefully and soon you will be in paradise. Then you can sell to the amateurs and then every human being on this Earth will play chess with at least 10 computers - just for testing purposes. Please put some flowers on my grave then! Thanks, and all the best to you, Rolf
