I am not convinced that chess programs have to be stupid to win against other
chess programs, and that the art is to write a chess programs only for playing
against humans.

I know many chess programs with DIFFERENT aproach that were good against
programs AND humans.

take e.g. hiarcs.

a program playing with much knowledge, on the other hand succesful in playing
eng-eng chess.

it is of course much more difficult to try an approach that uses knowledge and
search instead of concentrating on search alone.
