What follows is speculation on my part. I think it is posible that Kasparow was "convinced" to lose the match by a huge amount of underwater money offered by IBM (much much bigger than the prize fund for the match). As all the attempts to explain Kasparow's defeat seem to fail, this one comes to my mind.
