It has been a "crutch".  If you make king safety asymmetric, you tend to not get
successfully attacked very often, since your program is more sensitive to its
own king safety than with the opponent's king safety.

My goal is to develop, over the next few months (leading to the next WCCC
version) a fully symmetric evaluation that is significantly better in terms of
king safety (among other things) than the current version...

The project is made up of several people interested in helping, via a mailing
list dedicated to this project...
