It's just an annoying reflex found among many computer chess enthusiasts, particularly those who are only interested in the top programs and do not follow the amateur computer chess scene. Whenever a new, unexpectedly strong program appears, somebody without much knowledge will invariably ask whether it is a clone, or even accuse it of being a clone, without even a shadow of evidence. The obvious fact that this is extremely rude and unnecessary behaviour is clearly not enough to stop them. Is it really so hard to leave the question of whether some engine is a clone to the experts? And if you are curious about why some new engine is so strong and wonder where it's coming from, wouldn't it be possible to find a better question to ask than "is engine X a fruit clone"? Tord
