I suppose that we can always read the old books, and use the old chess programs.

It seems like it would be nice to me if people could say, "I'm going to give
this to you if you promise to do two things..." and that afterwards, the people
could actually be expected to follow through on their end of the bargain.

I realize that this approach is unrealistic.  That is what I have been
lamenting.
