There can be no more than 30 consecutive captures (and I doubt that ever happens
even in the search).
There are only 32 pieces at the beggining of the game, and the kings can not be
captured. So there are at most 30 captures in a chess game, and it is very
unlikely they can be consecutive (this can be a good theme for a chess
composition).
