I just tried the Arasan 5 test suite, and got a result of 67/141 at 10 seconds per position. This doesn't look good, but I have no idea how difficult these positions really are. What scores are normal for other programs? >I wonder if you tried other test suites and I wonder if you tried longer time >control. No. I don't use test suites much, and I have no patience for long time controls. >I remember that you had a hash bug in glaurung and it may be interesting to >know if fixing that bug has some effect in solving test suites faster and if >the effect was bigger at longer time control. I haven't noticed any difference in test suites, and I don't have enough data to say anything about the influence of the time control. I think fixing the hash bug mainly improved the endgame. When I watch Glaurung play, it looks like the endgame play is much better than it used to be, and I haven't added any new endgame knowledge at all the last half year. The most likely explanation is the hash table bug. It is also possible that I am simply wrong. I haven't made any tests to decide whether the endgame strength is really improved, it is just a subjective observation based on watching the engine play. Tord
