I have to assume I did not express myself correctly. What I wanted to say was that computers (by means not entirely clear to me) are able to transmit their moves to the server with *no delay at all*. Mouse-bound humans can't do that. You would have to wire a transmitter into their synapses or something. The 2-second increment I suggested was solely intended as compensation for that fact. In tournaments (back in the days when computers were still slightly mistrusted, but still accepted, guests), the situation was reversed. The operator was worried about his ability to get the move he saw on his display made on the board without losing appreciable time. Charley
