Unfortunately it's even worse now. This executable is another 5% slower than the
last one and overall 10% slower than the G4 one.

Did you make sure the set compiler (gcc_select) is 4.0X? I just read a bit in
the docs and another switch I was not aware about is '-arch ppc64'. Maybe you
can have a go with '-arch ppc64 -mtune=G5 -O2', but I'm just speculating.
I recon it is difficult to make an optimal executable if you don't have a G5.
If you want to try some settings you can mail me (or maybe Tord) the executable
and we can test them before you put the best one on the site.
