You see, certain statements depend more and others less on a specific training
in language skills. Here you simply dont say the truth. Your own chain of
reasoning goes like this: I (TG) wrote a *clone* and wished some test results
but if I had told them the truth they probably wouldnt have tested "my" program
therefore I didnt tell them the truth however when it was discovered I didnt
deny it but I'm still very surprised and almost feel offended by many critics.

This is NOT a decent apology reasoning.

This is insultive to the community. Just because TG violated the code of good
manners in computerchess he wants now that the failure is more situated in the
community itself. In special because a) the testers dont just test all appearing
"programs" even if they are clones ("99%" in the case here of TOGA which is a
FRUIT clone) - a hilarious allegation because it means that people are attacked
for NOT using illegal products and b) the users enjoy even clones as long as
they dont know about it and then if they get the news of the betrayal, then they
just throw the clone into the bin - also this is hilarious to assume that a
community should further enjoy a nice "program" even if the clone status is
known and proven.

This doesnt show something about the psyche of the whole community (apart from
the fact that the psycho is doing fine) but only about the psycho of a single
individual that morally failed to function.

Perhaps we can here see the true reason for the clone betrayal. You, Thomas,
wrote a little chess program almost 20 years ago, so it's a fact that you have
"programming" talents. But you didnt continue working on that computerchess
field. Then you probably followed the development with interest. But you never
had the time nor the ideas to create a new program from scratch. One day you
discovered the open source programs in chess. For you as an expert it was a
great joy. Now, instead of starting on your own invention you relied on your old
programming skills and changed a little bit the code - in 1% after your own
admission. You wanted to hear how "your" creation would do in tests and sent
TOGA to some testers. And that was seen as an unallowed activity. Therefore you
got flames. So far so good. There is a single issue which would be expected now.
But which is missing. Your apologies for the evil idea to define a 1% change of
a code as your "own" creation, with the consequences if that would have worked
well that you would now be among the 5 or 10 best programmers in computerchess
in the World! And the rest of this issue is the unclear problem, how you could
believe that computerchess as a whole, with at least a veritable tradition of
inventions during the last 20 years when you were absent, could take lightly
your betrayal. How could you lose yourself in such a fantasy? So, by far we have
now better understood how the psyche is functioning under special conditions,
because you completely deny (or did you forget it?) to explain your real
motives. If you could give some of them I am pretty certain that then the
community will remember you much more lightly and friendly. I can well be that
you simply didnt realise that this community of computerchess has a specific
standard, which isnt really 100% science but which isnt 0% science either! So,
perhaps you simply combined your young experiences at the age of 17 with the
high open source standard of 2005 without even thinking about the 20 years of
the past development.

Perhaps you should elaborate this a bit and THEN I am sure the whole case will
be forgotten so that you could well continue to participate and enjoy your
hobby. Could that be of help for you? I wish you a nice Chrismas. All the best
to you!
