Jim,

I was missed writing that Fritz5.32 presents problems
with promotions, I must have written that the problem
is with promotion of Nigths.
The study below is of Smyslov, and I found it in
the site of Valentim Albillo. Whites play and win:

[Event "Estudo de Smyslov"]
[Site "Valentim Albillo"]
[Date "????.??.??"]
[Round "?"]
[White "?"]
[Black "?"]
[Result "1-0"]
[Annotator "Paulo Soares"]
[SetUp "1"]
[FEN "8/2B2pPb/7k/4K3/3p2P1/8/8/8 w - - 0 1"]
[PlyCount "?"]

1. g8=N+ Bxg8 2. Kf6 Kh7 (2... d3 3. Bf4+ Kh7 4. g5 Kh8
5. Be5 Kh7 6. Bc3 d2 7. Bxd2 Kh8 8. Bc3 Kh7 9. Bd4 Kh8
10. g6 fxg6 11. Kxg6#) 3. g5 d3 4. Bf4 Kh8 5. Be5 Kh7
6. Bc3 d2 7. Bxd2 Kh8 8. Bc3 Kh7 9. Bd4 Kh8 10. g6 fxg6
11. Kxg6# 1-0

Look the test with some programs:

 Program        Move  Depth   Time(sec)   Evaluation

Fritz5.32.....  Kf6    20      105         +0.63
		Kf6    21      192         +0.63
		Kf6    22      294         +0.63

Genius 6......  g8=N+  12       40         +1.09
		g8=N+  13       53         +1.69
		g8=N+  13      233         +2.00

Crafty 16.5 T.. g8=N+  15       96         +0.71
		g8=N+  16      194         +3.25

Comet B00...... Kf6    13       78         +0.86
		g8=N+  14      189         +1.67

Uri placed here in the CCC, has approximately 1 month,
a problem that he elaborated, with promotion of nights,
if I am not deceived, mate in 17. For a mate in less moves,
following the main line of Uri, Genius 6 and Crafty 16.x
had decided. Fritz5.32 did not obtain because the
promotion of nigths.
I think that best is that more tests become, to verify
if I am certain.

Best regards,

Paulo Soares
