Go up one level in this thread

There is a limit to its "artificial dumbness". :-) That is >what I meant when I said "there is a certain limit below which it doesn't go...". >Maybe that limit is 1400, maybe 1600, and as Ed reports, it's certainly much >higher than those figures at blitz. > >I think Ed did get some useful feedback though: now he is aware that people >expect the estimated rating to take into account the time control, instead of >assuming a 40/2 game. > >Dave Gomboc I had a look what the manual had to say about this. The FIDE vs USCF rating issue is mentioned, the blitz vs 40/2:00 issue is not. I think it is wise to include this in future versions of the manual. As for its supposed "artificial dumbness" I think there is. My estimation: 1500 (fide) elo at 5/all and 1300 (fide) at 40/2:00 Here are some hints to weaken Rebel10 even more. Text taken from: www.rebel.nl/r10-hint.htm Ed Schroder __________________________________________________________ HINT-6: Lowering Rebel's playing strength (1) Always losing to Rebel? That's no fun indeed. Why not try Rebel10's ELO option? Go to menu OPTION and select ELO rating. From the sub-menu select .... and type your own ELO rating. You now have an opponent as strong as yourself! Next week more tips to lower Rebel10's playing strength. HINT-7: Lowering Rebel's playing strength (2) Always losing to Rebel? Here are some more hints! . Set Rebel's Playing Strength to NOVICE (menu OPTION). Rebel will play as a real novice. . Set the time level to PLY=1 (menu LEVEL). . Turn off Rebel's Permanent Brain (menu OPTION). Rebel will not think in your time (when it is your turn to move). . Use Rebel's Energy FUN option (menu EXTRA). Depending on your choice Rebel will kind of freeze your PC into an old IBM-PC at 4.77 Mhz (the first personal computer) and thus lower the playing strength enormously. . Turn off all Rebel's opening books (menu BOOKS). . All the above mentioned hints can be combined with each other resulting in an even more decreased playing strength of your REBEL10! BLUNDER BOOK (book fun!) Always losing to Rebel10? . The special BLUNDER BOOK might be a way out. . Rebel10 in every opening will make horrible mistake. . Just take your chance and win! . There are 237 of such opening lines in this blunder book. . Can you win 237 times in a row? As the blunder book also shows you the Rebel score you can't miss!
