Good, then you have the answer already. If you are looking at *laptops* then your criteria is going to be different than when looking for a desktop or a workstation. As far as laptops are concerned it makes little sense to build one that beats a desktop computer, simply because anything that can go into a laptop can be a part of a desktop, but not everything that is used in a desktop can be put into a laptop. :-) As Tord already pointed out the xtreme notebooks are clunky, heavy, huge *mothers* ... besides, they are also quite ugly! >You'll have to define "really good" and "nothing better on the market." This is obviously subjective, but as far as laptops are concerned it doesn't seem that the xtreme-stuff even qualifies as a laptop. I think that it is closer to an omelet maker. :-) > They >are a nice package, but I don't think it is fair to compare them to this 64-bit >dual core laptop. Essentially they are just dual-core Pentium-M CPUs... The >ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 256MB, though quite good, is not the same card as the >NVIDIA 7800 GTX either. Yes these are different cards, but just yesterday I installed a Quadro FX 3400 on a linux workstation (dual dualCore) with 16 GB Ram, etc. and a 30"(!) Apple Cinema display, which will obviously obliterate the xtreme-notebook(s). :-) > Then you have the SATA-100 (Macbook) vs. the SATA-150 >and RAID option in the Xtreme.. The xtreme comes with only 40GB hard-drive ... I'm sure that there is an option to upgrade it. > >They really don't compare -- but for the price, the Apple is a nice laptop. :-) You are correct, they don't compare! One of them is a laptop and the other is a pile of expensive bricks! :-) Cheers, Hristo > >-elc. > > > >> >>> >>>-elc.
