chess players do spend a decent amount of money on chess videos and books,
because
they believe these will somehow give them an edge. So, if vasik can market rybka
to be a great analysis tool, he might be able to break into this market.

Fritz9 and fritz8 have had great marketing and they have been a top engine. What
would happen if fritz9 was no longer a top five engine?

 I don't know about the history of engines? Was there ever a really well
marketed engine that nevertheless failed because its strength did not keep up
with other engines? maybe chessmaster will fall into this category?
