I've worked on NT exclusively for several years now and have never had to use
the POSIX subsystem. It was put into NT to handle federal government OS
requirements (although I have not heard of anyone in the federal government
using it, but I'm sure somebody must be). It'd be interesting to take a chess
program and run it under both Win32 and POSIX on the same machine and see if
there is a performance difference.
