I have had tens of thousands of downloads of individual engines in one day. I guess that someone does a shout over on FICS or ICC. I am not sure how it gets around. But I have had hundreds of simultaneous threads pulling a file around the clock. Fruit went nuclear for a while, but I have had similar pulls for new crafty versions and even simple engines like TSCP and MSCP. More people download Glaurung from my site than from yours. I don't know why that should be, since it doesn't really make any sense. Maybe my site is just faster or something. Since that machine is just a file server for me, I don't throttle the pulls much. The biggest volume of data from my site is chess data. If I went to look on my web server, I am sure I would see at least 20 people pulling compressed PGN files right now.
