  This is an example of a candidate passer. The c pawn is the candidate.

[d]4k3/pp6/8/8/8/8/PPP5/4K3 w - - 0 0

  This is an example of an outside passed pawn. White has it.

[d]4k3/3p2pp/8/8/8/P7/6PP/4K3 w - - 0 0
