The problem i see with todays chess training software is that it's all TOO FLEXIBLE!! I want a chess software that just comes up and says do X. When i finish X it says Do Y and Z etc. This approach where you think "oh i should work on my tactics here, next work on my openings here" is just too ramshackle, especially because few people are truly objective in judging their own needs. Now of course I know that individual players are different and thus the flexibility of the programs. Regardless though i think it would be far more productive as a whole to make a player go ahead and review what he/she think they know(Especially because most players don't know half of what they think they know anyway!), just to get them following a good solid regimen. The main inputs that the program should get from the player is simply their rating and the time they have for the session. The program needs to set a regimen based upon the players rating, then adjust accordingly for the time the player has to study when they sit down. What about people who have no rating you say? Well honestly tell them to play in a tournament and get one! No one questions Rebel when it explicitly says that it is a Professional Program DESIGNED for tournament players, a training software can say the same. I quote the strong master 2400+ Ignacio Marin "the only reason to devote so much time to chess is tournament play!". I currently have Chess mentor deluxe1.5, CT-art 3.0, Strategy, Studies 2.0, Encyclopedia of Middlegames, Blind Fold, Chessbase 7.0 along with every Program in The SSDF top 15 except gandalf and Chess system Tal. I'm sick of all this choice! Just want a program that's like a strict teacher. You may not learn as much as you would with a training program designed strictly for you by a personal coach, but you will learn quite a lot! Schools all over the world on many many subjects have taught this way since time in memorial, and. Charles Unruh The average Class A player
