Karpov once claimed a draw by repetition against Miles (I do not remember the
turnament), but the first position was not "equal" to the next two, because
Miles lost the rigth to caslte queen-side.
The rule at that time was to substract five minutes to the clock of the player
making and incorrect draw claim (if the player had less than five minutes she/he
lost on time). Karpov had only nine minutes left before the claim, and only four
after it. I am sure he was scared! (the game was drawn anyway).
José.
