This will not help you, but your post reminded me of an old stand-alone I owned long ago. It was the Fidelity Gambit, and it had a setup-position feature that allowed you to *not* include the king!! You could start a kingless game from your setup position, and the program would try to capture all of your pieces, but would always refrain from capturing the last one if the circumstance arose. Pretty strange, I wish I still had that computer.
