Yes, you should analyze your games with freeware. Nimzo99 is at least as good as Mchess Pro v.8 and I find that Arasan v.5.1 is just as good as those two. Just because a chess program is freeware doesn't mean it's crap. You can have as much fun with freeware as you do with the commercial stuff. I own Rebel 10 and find that Ed Schroders' support web-site to be first rate. I think that is the only way the other programmers are going to survive. Most of these programs are equal in playing strength but have different styles of play. The reason people give away their programs vary but is usually a desire to produce a good program and share it with the chess community. Most of the mainstream chess programmers have other full-time jobs and don't expect to get rich by selling chess programs. I reiterate, do yourself a favor and play as many freeware programs as possible.
