The paper is in a recent workshop proceedings on uncertainty and imperfect
information (which does not exactly make one think of chess, mind you. :)  They
said that they just use a scalar to represent the worth of a node, and there is
implicit uncertainty in that assessment, so this means they have to attempt to
reduce the uncertainty by controlling the search in a good way.
