Well, it wasn't actually a crash. It's just that my scheme for keeping track of piece inventory only allows 7 Queens max. (You can nicely fit the piece inventory into one 32-bit word if you only allow 7 Queens, Rooks, Bishops, and Knights to each side). The idea was that you will "never" see 7 of any of these in a real game, so it seemed like a good idea. Maybe I'll switch to two 32-bit words... -Dan.
