Shirov's lifetime record against Kasparov is:

+0-8=7

He does not seem like much of a fighter against Kasparov quite yet.

Anand's lifetime record against Kasparov might be (I am not positive here):

+2-6=19

The two wins are:

1992 at Reggio Emilia where he beat both Kasparov and Karpov (while still in his
prime)
1995 game 9 World Championship

and in non-World Championship play (the only type of games Shirov has played
against Kasparov), Anand's record against Kasparov is in the ballpark of:

+1-2=6

extremely better than Shirov's record.

The only reason his record is as poor as it is against Kasparov (still much
better than Shirov's record) is that he fell apart halfway through his World
Championship with Garry. Other than that tournament, he is practically tied with
Kasparov.

I agree that Anand tends to fold up his tent once he losses (an example is his
1995 World Championship match with Kasparov where he was leading after 9 games),
however, he has a MUCH better overall record against Kasparov than Shirov.
Shirov has never once beaten Kasparov in 15 games and in fact, he has lost over
half of them. It's hard to imagine that he would somehow improve due to playing
in a World Championship match.
