Subject: CCC Nominees Announced... Now What?!

Author: Steven Schwartz

Date: 09:30:03 06/03/99

I thank everyone for the avalanche of nominees
(especially on the last two days).

I especially thank the six people who have accepted
nominations and are, at this very moment, putting the
bulls eyes on their respective chests.

To follow is a list of the official CCC Moderator
nominees and then a calendar of what is to follow
along with some personal comment.
In alphabetical order:
   Dann Corbit
   Karins Dad
   Harold Faber
   Bruce Moreland
   James Robertson
   Fernando Villegas

It is recommended that all CCC members take an
interest in the nominees and their moderating
philosophies (which shall be put up on the
Computer Chess Resource Center in the next few days -
I will announce that here when it happens).

Because of our schedule here at ICD, the next elections
will not be able to be held until January 31st so the
three moderators you will choose will be on duty for
7 months.

Since we are all aware of the dreaded "moderator burn-out",
the first three top vote getters will serve for a total
of seven months. However, vote getter #4 will become
a moderator alternate who will serve in case a moderator
resigns or otherwise winds up out of office.

The elected moderators can also decide among themselves
exactly how to make use (or not make use) of the alternate in
times when vacations and such take away from their ability
to act as moderator.

Here is the calendar of events (along with personal
thoughts) that will take us through the election process:
    1) I have asked nominees for autobiographical information
and written moderation philosophies. With a bit of luck, we
will be able to post all six by end of our day (New York) this
Friday (June 4th) in the Computer Chess Resource Center.

    2) I understand that the message board is supposed to
be dedicated to only computer chess, but for the next week I
would like to see discussion about moderation and questions
posted to moderator nominees sharing that spotlight. I believe
that this is a minor inconvenience to members who come here to
read about computer chess only, but style of moderation is so
important to the way in which the CCC will be run for the
next 7 months, that one week should not be a problem. Once the
election begins (June 10th), the conversation will be closed.

    3) Moderator nominees will have a week to respond to
questions and concerns on the message board and via email.
On the afternoon of June 10th voting will begin. The Opinion Poll
shall be cleared for the purpose, but no results will be made public
until the vote ends on June 23rd (at 5 P.M.) The three winners and the
one alternate shall be announced by 6 P.M. on the 23rd.
New York time). This should give, even members who have a week's
vacation, an opportunity to place a vote.

    4) The moderators-elect can use the week prior to their
officially taking over (July 1st) to question current moderators
about methodology and other issues so that when they take office,
there will be a smooth transition.

So that's it. I urge every member to take this process seriously.
The new moderators are going to be taking us through two milestones:
our 1 millionth hit and the new millennium (unless the Y2K bug strikes
us down:-)).
