I enjoy playing against computers and watching them play each other. It's the only way I can see live games between masters. We spend so much time and money having programs play one another, setting up tournaments etc etc, just so that we can see which one is better. Seems ridiculous, though I used to do it too. We should have other machine contests besides chess. Let's see, how about if we line up a whole bunch of humidifiers and dehumidifiers and we will see which ones will overcome the other. We could brag on the internet that we have the best humidifier in town and nobody's dehumidifier could touch it. We could set up tournaments, get all excited about the new models coming out. Keep buying and buying more humidifiers and dehumidifiers so we can have more competitions. I have numerous chess programs, I can't beat most of them. I think the majority of people can't beat the current crop of chess programs. Playing programs that are to strong are discouraging when you lose over and over, at least it is for me. The people that sell these things must be laughing at us for continually buying this software when we know that we can't beat the ones we have now. I almost never play now, I'am writing my own, and if it's good enough I'll sell it over and over every year with just a small improvement.
