I got an Email, apparently from you, on my first reply to this post. However,
when I tried to respond by Email, my messages got returned, saying that your
address had fatal errors. This happened with both the Email address given for
you on CCC and the one in your Email message. The problem may be at my end, but
it is easier just to reply here.

You noted that the size of the opening book file in CM6000 is about 79 kB,
whereas I had said 3.34 MB. That is true, but what you apparently missed is
that all the file sizes that I gave were in the Fritz CTG format. That is, I
used a function of the Fritz program to convert the CM book from its original
format (.obk) to a Fritz opening tree (.ctg). In this format the opening book
was much larger than the original.

It was necessary to have all the opening books in the same format before
comparing the size, otherwise it would be comparing apples and oranges. As I
noted in my original reply, the Chessmaster book was much smaller than the
others I looked at. The Nimzo book was about 63½ times larger and so on.

BTW, I don't actually use the CM6000 book with Fritz or Nimzo. I just converted
it to test this function. Having done that, I was interested to note how much
smaller it was.

I hope this clears things up.
