Advanced chess is silly. It's like one day adding an exoskeleton and an oxygen
tank to long distance runners and coming up with the "Advanced Marathon".

Advanced chess is the "Professional Wrestling" of chess. It's there to attract
sponsors to other chess events. It will become obsolete once the computer
programs can consistently play better than the superGMs at tournament times. How
many "Advanced Chess" tournaments are there for class B players?

Now, I could see someone countering with the statement: "Well, we put bicycles
under people and nobody has a problem with those types of competitions.". The
difference is that the bicycle only enhances the movement of the competitor. It
does not minimize competitor mistakes, nor does it give alternative strategies
to the competitor. We also do not put a bicycle under a person and call it
"Advanced Long Distance Running", we call it bicycling.

I could also see someone countering with the statement: "The superGM advanced
chess games should result in better played games which can add to our chess
knowledge.". You could add to chess knowledge by doubling the number of
tournaments or by analyzing correspondence games. Chances are that due to the
interruption of concentration, advanced chess games are often a little poorer
games as can be seen by Anand beating Karpov. Anand is a speed player who would
not be interrupted as much by a computer than a more methodical player like
Karpov.

Using tools and technology is great. It just happens to be silly to do it in a
human/human mental competition. Do you see anyone playing "Advanced Checkers"?
