Well, this explains it somewhat for the GMs. It doesn't explain it for lower
rated players who could get good practice games in against someone of a similar
strength. I play on FICS occasionally and have found that some of the best games
are G30 or G20 5. The people who play those types of games seem to be friendlier
on average and do not seem to be in the same type of rush as the faster players.
They are often willing to review the games and do not appear to be on some quest
to get in as many games as possible or some such. With some of the faster
players, by the time you say "Good game" they are already playing another and
they rarely stick around to discuss the game.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.
