In 1999, Kasparov came out like a house on fire due to those preparations. Kamsky has not played in a few years, but it is possible that he has been studying a lot just like Kasparov? Could it be that Kamsky was just preparing for a FIDE championship when some of the field would be weaker? Kasparov will not be there. Anand will not be there. Karpov will most likely be eliminated in the quarter-finals. Kamsky is seeded number 4 in the tournament behind Kramnik, Shirov, and Morozevich. Now granted, just because Kasparov and Anand will not be in the tournament does not mean that it will not be a difficult tournament. But, if Kamsky has secretly been preparing, he could take it right out from under everyone's noses and we could have an unexpected new FIDE champion. KarinsDad :)
