Subject: SAC99: endgame decides first two games

Author: Shep

Hi all,

the Shep Amateur Championship '99 (16 amateur programs, knockout and RR, 40/120
+ rest/60, P6-233 and K6-233, 128 MB) kicked off two days ago. First results:

Crafty 16.13 - Fortress 1.6.1 1:0
Bionic Impact 4.1 - Diogenes 4.83 1:0

Both games were drawish throughout the whole middlegame. Only a few slight
endgame oversights on the outsiders' part plus the help of the endgame
tablebases guaranteed the victory for the higher seeded programs.

It just shows the biggest difference between "strong" and "weak" amateur
programs is obviously the handling of the endgame.

PGN and CBV will only be available after the end of each round (i.e. roughly
every two weeks).
