I got much better GCC results by using the following command line with Cygnus GCC B20: bash-2.02$ gcc -O9 -mpentiumpro -march=pentiumpro -Wall -ansi -pedantic tscp.c Tom Kerrigan's Simple Chess Program (TSCP) version 1.3, 11/11/98 'help' displays a list of commands. tscp> on default ply depth=6 ply nodes score pv 1 21 48 d2d4 2 93 0 d2d4 d7d5 3 996 35 d2d4 d7d5 b1c3 4 5952 5 e2e4 d7d5 f1b5 c8d7 b5d3 5 32924 35 e2e4 b8c6 b1c3 e7e5 g1f3 6 203273 13 e2e4 b8c6 d2d4 d7d5 e4d5 d8d5 time: 6.519000 sec., nodes=203273, NPS = 31181.622948 tscp> Compared to: Tom Kerrigan's Simple Chess Program (TSCP) version 1.3, 11/11/98 'help' displays a list of commands. tscp> on default ply depth=6 ply nodes score pv 1 21 48 d2d4 2 93 0 d2d4 d7d5 3 996 35 d2d4 d7d5 b1c3 4 5952 5 e2e4 d7d5 f1b5 c8d7 b5d3 5 32924 35 e2e4 b8c6 b1c3 e7e5 g1f3 6 203273 13 e2e4 b8c6 d2d4 d7d5 e4d5 d8d5 time: 5.317000 sec., nodes=203273, NPS = 38230.769231 tscp> with MS VC++ gives 81.6% of the performance of MS VC++ for GCC.
