Perl is a script language. You need a Perl interpreter to run it.
These are freely available (any GNU collection should have one for Win95).
And they come ready-to-run with Linux. :)
I did not use C because a) I know much more about programming in Perl and b)
because Perl is perfect for parsing strings.

If you should not get any Perl to run on your system, don't worry; I will
gradually put up all major test suites in CM format (and Chess Tiger format,
BTW) on SCCS as well.

I should mention there is a small catch to this: since the CM position format
does not allow for entering any additional information like "side to move" or
"castling rights", you still need to give this information to CM "by hand". :(
But it's still better than having to enter all positions manually.
I usually have Fritz (just the GUI) running in the background to have "best
move" and castling rights at hand.

CM 6000 is, IIRC, able to import FEN directly, BTW, but I never tried to.
