Each computer is supposed to put their software and platform in their finger notes. You can get a comprehensive (but outdated) list of computers by typing "=computer". You can also type "help computerlist" for an even more outdated list. There are several interfaces which connect to a server and filter only the relevant messages down to the engine: WinBoard/XBoard in Zippy mode and RoboFICS on 32-bit Windows and Unix, InterfaceTest on the Mac. Some other authors have their own custom interfaces. To find out what a particular computer uses, type "var <computername>" and look at the "Interface" variable setting. Each interface has its own protocol, finger Mann, Hawk, and InterfaceTest for pointers to details. Ian
