Shep has posted the advantages of Hiarcs 7.32 , I want to add some advantages of Hiarcs 7.01. Much better balanced opening book and better book learning . If you play H7.32 against strong opponents your opening book will soon be a mess if you use the default learning settings of the Chessbase progs it goes like this : first loss with sicilian ; puff , no sicilian any more , same with e5 , d6 , Nf6 , and after about 30 games with it it will randomly choose any move/line in the opening book ( at the moment it likes 1.c3 with white :=) ) . If I get it right for the H7.32 book they took the original one and merged it with fritz book , so they also got some bogus lines in the original Hiarcs never had . The other one is a lot more difficult to proove . Hiarcs 7.32 seems to have lost some of its magic in saving bad positions . I often used H7.01 on my P233 against another prog on a PII300 , and hiarcs outperformed every opponent except junior . In comparison H 7.32 can't do this as it seems. I would be interested to see the results of a test H7.01 against H7.32 , although I think it will be difficult to find a tester as this really sounds boring :=) . Another minor advantage of H7.01 is setting up positions ; IMO it is the easiest and most comfortable of all progs . ( you wander with the arrow keys over the board and every time you want a piece you just press the beginning letter of its name ; I like this very much ) . And also the display of hash effectivity is a nice feature H7.32 doesn't have . Regarding the speed the numbers Shep gave may probably not be correct for slower Compis . If you have some older computer with 32 MB RAM for example under DOS you will have something like 31,5 MB for Hash as under the various Windows you will have something like 16 MB only . I don't claim H7.01 is stronger or better but if H7.32 is a step forward it is a very little one. pete
