the reason I don't like this approach is that slowing it down makes it play
tactically worse, obviously, but it isn't a dumb program positionally either.

How many players do you know that will fall into a mate in 2, but which
understand backward, weak, passed, outside passed pawns, blockading, king
safety, etc...

IE you get a tactical dummy, but a positionally aware engine.. and it just
doesn't 'feel like' a 1500 player...

The new eval scaling options give rise to the possibility of having various
personalities (several are fiddling with this now) with the ability to tone
down extensions, and tone down eval components, so that it can be dumbed down
in sort of a uniform way...
