I am not going to accuse any program as being one of the worst, but if you are looking for one that is interesting to play but not impossible for the average chessplayer to beat now and then, try the Winboard program La Dame Blanche. She has a fairly broad opening book, an interesting, even human style of play and by the results I have gotten against it about the same playing strength on my Celeron 333mh as I have, which I estimate to be around 1750 USCF. Well, maybe she's a little stronger, but I win some nice games with some frequency...a far cry from what happens when I play Hiarcs, or Fritz or Crafty.... eric
