Why does a frog sitting on a lily pad worry about flies?

I suppose it is a matter of pride... or their competitive nature.. or their
'hunger' to be the best...  etc.

But they _definitely_ care... just as they care about their USCF/FIDE ratings.
Maybe even more-so...
