Subject: Bug in mschess?

My fellow members--

Does anyone know of any bugs in the mschess program? (I downloaded it some time
ago and believe it was a freeware on the MicroSoft site. I can find and pass
along this information if it is necessary to figuring out the problem below.)

While playing the other day on the beginner level (I played white), I tried to
move my king to a "safer" square when the program would not allow it. It was
then that I noticed the program showed me in check. I hadn't noticed this
before since I was not in check (or even seriously threatened late in the game).
Then, suddenly, the white pawn on the adjacent diagonal (the "checking" pawn)
flashed, turned to black and I was in a seriously threatened position.

Does anyone have any information on this? Also, would anyone have a short
answer (I wouldn't want to tie-up the message board) on how a basic "bug check"
might be accomplished on someone else's program?

Any information would be appreciated.

Yours,

Kelly Patterson
