Hello Patrick,
I don't know what Thorsten has accomplished.  I think that Chris Whittington is
the one responsible for the CSTal program.  As I have said here many times, I
like the GUI.  It has some minor bugs that I wish were fixed.  I prefer to use
it to play on FICS instead of winboard.  It's playing strength is better than
99% of all chess players.  I have to admire anyone that can create such a
program.
