Hi Dr. Hyatt,

Thanks for the reply. It turns out that my extension code was messed up -- I
reversed a sign in a conditional and was extending way too much. My only
remaining question for you is about the "n" in your stats. Is that both qnodes
and tree nodes or just tree nodes. After I fixed the extension problem I am
seeing about 8k tree nodes and about 30k qnodes for the same 6 ply a3 search.

Another one: the extension I had messed up was a pawn push extension. I was
(and am) extending the search if a pawn was just pushed near queening (1/2 ply
for white pawn -> 6th file, full ply to 7th, same for black on other end). I do
this because my program was allowing pawns to queen too easily. Is this a good
idea? How do others deal with queening threats?

Thanks,
Scott
