There are lots of exceptions... ie if you had noticed crafty's history, you would see that _several_ GM players have crafty's 'password' and challenge it regardless of what their rating is, and they also challenge it out side the formula time controls. Roman often plays it 5 5. Others play it 2 12. IM Brian Hartman plays whatever he wants even though he is rated over 600 points below. And what is this about refusing to play computers with an increment? Are you for real? It regularly plays 2-3 computers at longer 15 15 time controls. And it will play any computer that is rated high enough, at 5 3.
