Micheal,

Yes you are right. Rebel shouldn't have a DOS interface anymore, although it's
flexible enough. Not like the interfaces of some older DOS programs.
Yes, I like to squeeze it to 1024x768 like Tina, and set refresh rates at 85Hz
or higher.
Yes, I think it's lousy Rebel Century as a top program hasn't a resign feature
and plays on like stupid in a KN vs. K situation. Is it too much asked for,
those features? No.
But from the discussions earlier on - yes you missed them and are found guilty
by the jury :) - here and elsewhere I think Ed and his crew have recieved the
message.
Although I'm not too happy with the Schaakmeester interface for CP. Okay, we'll
live through it.
Yes it's irritating to have a DOS program with which many pc's generate
problems, running Win98, or Win 95 or whatever, like with your mouse driver. I
once installed it on an old P200 and I didn't even got the mouse to work.
Nasty. Unfriendly.

But: the main reason I still buy it is because of the playing style. As I'm a
very moderate chess player (how friendly put) I will never win from those
programs at full strenght. Fritz6 weaker than Fritz 5.32? Thank heaven.
Now I have just 99.999999% chance of losing against it instead of 99.99999999%
against Fritz 5.32.

There are people here knowing that I'm not picky about ChessBase products :) but
every time I play Fritz or Hiarcs in handicap or friendly mode I see those
stupid moves with which the program offers material to me. There we have our
handicap, now Fritz will play on at full strenght. That's not what I meant with
adaptible.

Rebel never gave me that feeling. When I play it in a serious game there's
always that sweaty mousehand (yuk) I'll get when playing online against real
people (ooooh....#%6$, that's wrong, hope he doesn't see it...).
And with RC you'll get more flexible ways to play against you - different styles
at the same rating.
That's what I like with programs like Rebel, CS Tal (and aslo Nimzo 99, because
of the nice tweaking possibilities).

For me that's 95% reason to buy RC also. I love it again. Shouldn't playing
style count more than interface?

***********

BTW did you try Prince of Persia 3D? Will last until Christmas, unless you're an
8 year old hyperactive, in which case you will play it out in 3 days.
It's like Tomb Raider, but without Lara Croft and her big...guns. (moderators do
your work)

Jeroen ;-}
