The difference in ratings for weak chess computers seems to be larger. As you probably know, Larry Kaufman used to add 200 points to the SSDF ratings to obtain what he claimed were USCF ratings, which were then published in the Computer Chess Reports. But I suppose one of the objects of that was to sell more chess computers.
