Subject: Why you should buy a new chess program!

Dear Computer Chess Club,

As I have said before--Life is short and now is the time to buy the latest
computer chess program.. You don't have to tell guys like Larry Tamarkin or
Fernando Villegas this. We all know how strong the software/hardware combos are
at present. They will get stronger. If we stop buying then there will be
little incentive for the programmers to progress.

We buy a new car to enjoy the freedom from breakdowns or the allure of "rich
Corinthian leather" and the feeling of power that only a luxury German
automobile ,i.e. Mercedes 800 etc, can give us. Similarly, in playing the new
machines and programs, we want more features, a massive opening book or enormous
and fast EGTB usage. We enjoy the chatter of Fritz or the austere functionality
of Rebel. The best part of buying a chess program is the price. For only
1/1000th of the price of a good car you can have the fruits of damned hard
programming labor.

So you see friends there is no excuse not to buy a fine German or Dutch or
English or USA or French computer chess program. The play will become more
beautiful and even though we will keep on losing to them we will all be in awe
as they move the pieces with panache.

Buy, buy, buy
