When listing the pros and cons of a computer against a human(say a 2500 rated player) one advantage for the the human is pre game preparation. Most everyone here speaks of preparation vs computers by arming themselves with anti computer strategies. As a reference, two nice articles were posted here in the past month or so by Bruce M and Vincent D about such weaknesses computers have. (I saved them if you happened to miss them) This knowledge combined with the opponent intensely preparing against a single opponent (Rebel Century for example) vs economizing their prep time against many opponents (tournaments) will be advantageous for the human. How will the computer, in the meantime prepare for the human? Well, it won't - it would not know the difference if it were playing Kasparov or a weak club player, barring the tweaking of the opening book by the programmer. So I think computers would do better in a string of 50 tournament games versus 50 match games.
